Adding subtitles and captions to your video

posted in Captioning, Deaf, Technology |

Ever have a video that you want it to be captioned or subtitled but turned off by the high price? Or have you watched any deaf video and wanted to add funny comments? Go to BubblePly and sign up. Works with YouTube, Google Video, ifilm, etc.
If you wish to “Bubble” your own video, you will need to host it on one of the approved video hosting or community web sites and then come back to BubblePLY.com with the URL.

Oh, and do you know that it’s free?

If only there’s a similar service for podcasting ;-)

You can also try http://mojiti.com, a similar online video annotating service. It’s free as well and I think it’s more fun with a bigger selection of annotation types like shapes and animations.

You will only see at mojiti. I checked youtube and the captions didn’t appear there.

Pamela, I think you’re missing the point. This posting is about adding subtitles and captioning to videos on the web. Has nothing to do with cc movies on DVD and TV.

It is not fair for us, deaf people, not to have cc in ALL tv programs while heairing people have voice sounds in all programs.
Come on , BE FAIR and put cc in ALL for us!
Reading cc help deaf people improving in their English and vocabulary.

Terry, it’s not financially feasible to put cc on everything. However, if people volunteer their time and use open sources products, then the volume of cc will increase exponentially. BubblePly and Mojiti are one such tools. Better than nothing!

There is some easy to use s/w for the Mac that allows you to put captions on your QT movies. It can also spit out a transcript of the captions as well for your podcasts. You need to type in the text, but the way it works makes it easy and it goes very quickly. Check out MovCaptioner:

MovCaptioner’s URL has changed. Here is the new link:

    http://www.synchrimedia.com

The new version allows you to create .SRT and .SUB files which work with CC’ing Google Video.

YouTube also supports .SRT and .SUB files. So now you can use MovCaptioner for YouTube videos as well.
