posted in Deaf |In both cases, the people received a phone call from an operator relaying a message for a person claiming to be hard of hearing. The person said he or she would be sending an “overdraft” money order to pay for the item, which means he or she would be overpaying.
This scam, known as “advanced fee fraud,” is common on Internet auction sites like eBay, officials say. Often, the sellers are contacted by people claiming to be shopping for overseas customers. The buyer sends the seller a phony cashier’s check for too much money and then asks the seller to wire the difference to a foreign address or independent shipping company.
