Relay Services - caught in the act

posted in Current Affairs, Deaf, Finance, General, Hearing Loss, Money, Technology |

On one hand, many hearing people are turning down accepting relay calls because they think it’s telemarketing or a scam.

On the other hand, for those that do accept relay call, be very careful not to say anything you don’t want the deaf caller to hear.

Here’s a tale of a Ford dealership bad-mouthing a deaf customer that called via relay services… and the relay operator heard that and typed the bad mouthing words to the customer.

When a mustachioed ape at a Ford dealership, while talking to a deaf
woman over the phone via a Relay Service, makes an offhand background
comment to his coworkers that he’s “talking to the ideal woman — deaf,
dumb and blonde.” And then the Relay Service worker types that sentence
back verbatim to the customer.

Is it just me or do other people have trouble accessing that “Caught in the act” link? All I got was a blank page.

I checked and the link is still working.

However, should’ve added (NSFW) because the actual title of the posting is “The Ideal Woman Versus Ford’s Dickhead Steve”

    Sheesh.
