Newest scam in the deaf community

posted in Current Affairs, Deaf |

I’m getting multiple emails with this at the title “Deaf Owned Business — Positive Change for everyone” and I’ve reported those idiots to GDI.

GDI stands for Global Domains International. For $10 a month you get the “priviledge” of selling .ws domain to the unsuspected victims.

I’m a professional webmaster and I’m also a deaf MLMer (though not that active nowadays) so I know how much a webhosting should cost and what they offer.

Take a look at my website - www.deafbiz.com Nice layout, huh? Made possible with Mambo, which is FR EE!

For $10 a month with HostGator, I get the Fantastico package, which includes Mambo and Wordpress, and many more. Professional webmasters are now gravitating toward Mambo and of course if you need a blog, WordPress is the way to go, period! Owning your own domain can be as little as $1.79 via RegisterFly (which I highly recommend). So for $1.79 plus $10 a month, you’re in business and you will NOT be nickled and dimed to death!

If you still want to sell the .ws domain, join Cognigen for Freeeeeee!

In the meantime, I highly recommend that deafies avoid GDI. I’ve been in this business long enough to see immense hype and feeding frenzy every two years.

Just learned that Fantastico now includes Templates Express! You can let Fantastico install one template of your choice and you can use an html program like Dreamweaver, MS Frontpage, or any free HTML editor program to make changes and upload via http://FTP.

    Hi
I signed up merely for the space to host photos to ebay. I was paying a lot more to get a domain name and hosting site seperately. I have been doing this for 6 years. I thought that I would try to get a few sign ups to make my payment $0.00. I don’t know if this is a bad idea but I hope that I can depend on the hosting. What do you think?

    Thanks for your time

Obviously somebody doesn’t know what GDI is about at all! (or how to spell privilege). Let me clear the record. For $10 a month you get your own domain, the top level domain .ws is still widely open. You choose the .ws name you want. Here are some of the benefits.

    —snip—

Don’t advertise on my dime. Take your business elsewhere.

BTW, it’s been very quiety lately - the GDI spammings have stopped! I wonder why? Maybe because deafies are tired of losing money on this scam??

I am afraid I have to agree with you.

Many people have invested in GDI, many very successfully. It’s not a scam, just an exploitation of a niche.

My rational for never getting involved was simple; something that you have touched upon yourself.

The deal for $10 a month is not good. The web space is small and the ‘features’ neglible. On that basis alone, the deal is a poor one. It is sold purely on the basis of the chance to sell on via the extensive marketing, not on the quality of the product.
